Review | NYX HD Concealer Wand in Porcelain

A make-up routine is not completed without a concealer. I use it to cover up blemishes, scarring and dark circles. Since my other concealers, sadly, ran out I was on the hunt for a new one.
My eyes fell on a concealer from NYX. I have never really tried anything from NYX, so it seemed fun to explore this brand. I was contemplating between the HD Concealer Wand and the Concealer in a Jar. In the end I went with the HD Concealer Wand, since it's more hygienic and it's mend to give good coverage as well.

NYX HD Concealer Wand in CW01 Porcelain via Douglas.nl        €6,99 for 3g
I ordered mine online so I had no idea if the colour was right for me. I went with the lightest colour they had, since I am very pale. The packaging is really nice and looks more expensive than it actually is. Now on to the product inside, since that is the most important part.

The concealer is a little bit lighter than my own skin. NC15 from MAC is also a bit too light, so I think the colour is most comparable to MAC NC15. When I blend it with my foundation the colour difference isn’t noticeable. For under the eyes it's perfect because you want to highlight your under eye area. So colour wise, it's a good match.
It has a super creamy consistency and it blends very well. The finish is semi-matte to satin. Since I have combination/oily skin I prefer a concealer that has more of a matte finish.
Coverage wise I have to say I am not very impressed. Yes, it does cover well, but I know other concealers that do a better job. I had to apply more than I normally do, which means it has almost ran out. I have been using this concealer for about six weeks and normally they last longer. I do really like the applicator of this concealer.

Will I buy this concealer again? Probably not. It was nice to try it out and it does work well, but I want something with a bit more coverage. I am hoping that Collection will finally come to The Netherlands. I need to stock up on there Lasting Perfection Concealer ASAP. My hunt for the perfect concealer goes on and I will inform you every step of the way.

What is your favourite concealer?

My Life | Mrs. Carter World Tour 2014

Tuesday 18 March 2014

So today is the day I am going to Beyoncé!!! I went to her concert last year and it was AMAZING! Since she has a new album (who hasn't heard about that?) she decided to come back to Europe, yeeeeeeh! Tonight is the night and as I said I am beyond excited. I love her new album and I know she will perform a lot of new songs. I also want to look for a nice Surfboard sweater, if it is not too expensive I will go for it, hehehe. Anyway I want you to enjoy the night with me. I will show you my make-up and some bits of the concert. Without further redo let’s get started!

The make-up

I kept it very simple and classy. I always seem to go for this kind of look, but I can't help it. I like the more natural look.

Her show was amazing. She was twenty minutes late though, but that didn't spoil the fun. She sang a lot of songs from her new album, but also some old classics. I loved all here outfits. They were cool, on trend and a bit hipster here and there. All with all I thought it was an amazing show and I will go to her concert again if she comes to Amsterdam. When the show ended it felt like it was a short show. Maybe it was but I enjoyed every single minute of it!

PS. The Surfboard Sweater was €60, so I thought that was a bit overpriced.

Not the best picture quality, but I tried my best while dancing and singing :P

Get The Look | Lily Collins

With her skin white as snow and her bold brows you immediately recognize her. The actrice known from movies such as Abduction and The Mortal Instruments is also the face of Lancôme; she is a real beauty girl. We are all very jealous of her gorgeous eyebrows, at least I do. Do you want to know how to recreate her look?

Lily has a couple signature looks that she wears a lot.

Lily’s Beauty Looks:

  • -       Bold Brows
  • -       Bold Lip
  • -       Brown Smokey Eye
  • -       Peachy Cheeks
  • -       Cat Eye

Today I am going to recreate one of her looks. Her make-up on the rightmost picture is very wearable and classic. It will probably not be the same products and I am not a make-up artist. But here is my version of a Lily Collins make-up look.

For this look I will use these products:

Face:
-       Smashbox Photo Finish Light Primer
-       Bourjois Healthy Mix Foundation in 51
-       NYX HD Concealer in Porcelain
-       Beauty UK High Brow Kit
-       Catrice All Matt Powder in Translucent
-       Bourjois Cream Blush in 02
-       Sleek Contour Powder from the Sleek Face Form Kit in Light
-       MAC Mineralize Skinfinish in Soft & Gentle

Eyes:
-       MAC Eyeshadow in Naked Lunch
-       Naked 2 Eyeshadow from the Urban Decay Naked Basics Pallet
-       Sans Soucis Kajal Stick in Brown
-       Catrice Inside Eye Highlighter Pen in 010
-       Stila Eyeliner in Black Waterproof
-       Emite Eyelash Curler
-       Max Factor False Lash Effect Mascara in Black Waterproof

Lips:
-       Maybelline Color Sensational Lipstick in Pleasure Me Red
-       Tanya Burr Lipgloss in Let’s Travel The World

Step 1. First I will prime my face with the Smashbox Photo Finish Light Primer. This way you will make sure that your make-up stays in place all day and it minimizes your pores.

Step 2. Apply your foundation. Lily always has perfect skin without imperfections, so make sure that your skin looks flawless. I use the Bourjois Healthy Mix foundation. It gives a good coverage without looking cakey.

Step 3. To cover up any imperfections and dark circles I use concealer. This one from NYX is amazing. It is a good match, has great coverage and it blends well with my skin.

Step 4. Lily her bold brows are all natural, but I have to color them in. To give myself some amazing brows I use the Beauty UK Eyebrow Kit. I start with the lightest colour in the pallet and add the darker colour lightly until I am happy with the result. Start light; you can always make them darker.

Step 5. For her peachy cheeks I use a Cream Blush from Bourjois. It gives a beautiful natural peachy flush to my cheeks.

Step 6. Lily loves naturel glowy skin. Since I do not want to end up like a shining disco ball at the end of the day I powder my t-zone with the All Matt Powder from Catrice.

Step 7. To accentuate my cheekbones I use a matt contour powder from Sleek. Make sure you blend this well, cause you want to create a natural effect.

Step 8. For a healthy glow I use the MAC Mineralize Skinfinish. I apply this lightly on my cheekbones, nasal bridge and Cupid’s bow.

Step 9. I apply MAC Naked Lunch on the whole eyelid. It is a soft peachy colour that I blend very well, to make sure there are no harsh lines. I also do this with Naked 2, a matt light brown shade from the Urban Decay Naked Basics Pallet. I apply this in the crease and the outer corner of the eyelid. After this just blend, blend and blend. You want to make sure it looks perfect and blending is key.

Step 10.  Draw a thin line with brown eyeliner just above your upper lash line. Make a wing at the end. This way you are creating the famous cat eye. It can take a while to make them look even, but practice makes perfect. Also lightly line the outer corner of your lower lash line and smudge it out.

Step 11. Line the lower lash line with a nude eye pencil. This way your eyes look even bigger. Line the upper waterline with a black eye pencil. It will make you lashes look fuller and thicker. I use waterproof eyeliner from Stila to do this. This way I know for sure everything stays put.

Step 12. Curl your lashes and put some coats of mascara on top of them. My all-time favourite mascara is the False Lash Effect Mascara from Max Factor. My eyelashes are black and perfectly curled all day.

Stap 13. Apply some red lipstick en top this with a red lipgloss. This way you get the same effect as on the picture. You could also use a different colour. An orange or nude lipstick would look amazing as well.

After all these steps you created your own Lily Collins make-up look. I find this more an evening look, but you can take some elements out of this look that are more suitable for day time wear. When is it not a good time for a cat eye or peachy cheeks?

Which look of Lily do you like the best?
